Spasmodic Dysphonia

This is a neurological disorder affecting the muscles of the voice box. This causes the voice to have a tight, strained quality and to break occasionally once every few sentences. However, this disorder is usually more severe and spasms may occur every other word, making the affected individual’s speech very difficult to understand.

Spasmodic Dysphonia can be treated by injecting Botulinum Toxin, also known as Botox, into the muscles of the voice box or by voice therapy.
