Adenoids are located at the back of the nose and the upper part of the throat. They are made up of lymphoid tissue and usually reduce in size as we get older.
However in the case some children, adenoids may stay the same size or become larger as the child ages, cause problems such as snoring, nasal discharge, a blocked nose, sinus infections or fluid buildup in the ears, also known as ‘glue ears’.
If the adenoids do not seem to be diminishing in size, they need to be removed using a surgical procedure known as an Adenoidectomy.
This operation to remove the adenoids is carried out under short-term general anaesthesia.
